九木自序：前一段时间从电驴上闲逛无意中看到的，是台湾流传过来的学英语的资料，比那些以某种考试为目的的七七八八的英语资料好多了，这个是从实用出发来安排内容的。可惜原来的资料是个繁体的而且是打包的程序，不过，终于被我破解了，从里面提取了文本转成简体又重新排了排版，放上来大家分享一下。我的硬盘里还有配套的视频和mp3资料（文本里的句子和词组都是有朗读的），如果有人想要可以加我的QQ号联系我。

catch 在这个片语是作「感染」的意思。除了 catch a cold 之外，have a cold 和 catch the flu 也有近似的意思。
此外，catch 还有别的用法喔。例如，我们可以说：
My stomach feels funny; I think I caught something.
我觉得肚子怪怪的，我想我大概吃坏肚子了。
Kathy caught a bad chill during winter vacation.
凯西寒假时得到了严重的风寒。
另外，sick 与 ill 和 catch a cold 的差别在哪里呢？
catch a cold 尤指「感冒」，但 sick 或 ill 都是「人不舒服」的意思。
那 catch a bad cold 又是什么意思呢？
这个片语就是指「病得很重」的意思。这个片语和 catch (one's) death 意思相同。所以下面三个例句都用来指病得很不舒服。
Chris was very ill.  克里斯病得很重。
Chris caught a bad cold.  克里斯得了重感冒。
Chris caught his death.  克里斯病得死去活来。

catch (one's) breath喘口气；休息

Ben stopped every few minutes to catch his breath.
班每隔几分钟就停下来喘口气。
It took me a long time after the race to catch my breath.
跑完步，我花了很长一段时间才从气喘吁吁的状态恢复正常。
Mia just wanted to rest and catch her breath.
米雅只想休息一下，歇口气。

从上面的例句，我们知道 catch (one's) breath 这个片语可以用在生理的休息（如运动后），也可以用在心理上的休息（如从繁忙的生活或是繁重的功课中喘息一下）。
在第三和第四个例句中，我们也可以用 take five 和 take a break 去取代 catch (one's) breath 喔！
此外，take five 也可以指「生理上的休息」，例如，拍戏时，导演说 cut! Let's take five，意思就是「卡！休息五分钟」。
catch (one's) breath 除了有上面介绍的意思之外，当（某人）因为大吃一惊或是害怕而屏息时，也可以用这个片语来形容这个情况！我们可以看看下面的例句。
The assasination of the President made Stella catch her breath with shock.

catch (someone's) eye吸引（某人）的目光

The poster will really catch people's eyes.
海报真的会让人眼睛一亮。
The beautiful young woman caught the eye of everyone in the office.
这位年轻貌美的女性让办公室里的每个人都为之眼睛一亮。

catch (someone's) eye 是指「吸引（某人）的注意；抓住（某人）的目光」。catch 在这里是「吸引」的意思，尤其是用在「引起（某人）的兴趣、注意」上。请注意这个片语中的 eye 须用单数。这个片语也有形容词的用法，eye-catching 就是用来指「（某事物）非常引人注目」。
下列几个片语与 catch (someone's) eye 意思相近：
catch (someone's) attention
attract (someone's) attention
get (someone's) attention
至于为什么 eye 是用单数而不是用复数呢？我们可以这样想：一只眼睛被别的东西吸引，还要留另一只眼睛看路才不会撞到电线杆，所以记得，eye 要用单数喔！

catch in the middle of夹在中间

Don't let them get caught in the middle of that argument.
不要让他们把你夹在那个争论中间。
The teacher was caught in the middle of an argument between the school and parents.
老师被夹在学校和家长的争论中间。

catch 在这里是「陷入；困住」的意思，这个片语常用被动式，和 trap 意思相近。英文中另一个和 catch in the middle of 意思相同的片语是 be caught in the crossfire。其中，crossfire 是指「交相指责；交相责问」的意思。
下面 catch 的用法，意思和上面的片语很像，但要注意的是，在这里常用被动式喔！
He won't be here on time, because he is caught in traffic.
他没办法准时到因为他被困在车阵里了。
上面例句的 catch 意思是「碰上、遭遇（恶劣或是麻烦的情况）」。而下面的例句中，catch 是指「需要时恰巧缺乏或是没有」的意思。
Tiffany was caught without any savings.
蒂芬妮在急需用钱的时候，刚好一毛都没有。

catch off guard（因突发状况而）措手不及

The storm caught us off guard; we had no coats or umbrellas.
这场暴风雨下得让我们措手不及；我们刚好没带雨衣或雨伞。
The soldiers caught their enemy off guard.
士兵们把敌人冷不防逮个正着。

catch off guard 是指「在没有心理准备的情况下，让（某人）措手不及；出乎意料」的意思。catch napping 是它的相似词。
读者可能对 catch off guard 感到陌生，但是在美式英语中颇为常用。使用这个片语的时候，记得要在 catch 之后加（someone）是让（某人）措手不及的意思。这个片语可以用主动式，也可以用被动式。
catch off guard 在新闻英语中也十分常用。我们可以一起看看下面的例子。
The earthquake really caught the teacher off guard.

catch on了解；流行

Mary was playing a joke on Ed, but Ed caught on.

The teacher tried to explain, but the kids did not catch on.

新类型的音乐蔚为流行。

catch on 作「了解」用的时候，常常是指听得懂别人说的笑话（appreciate a joke），或是了解别人的弦外之音（understand the point he makes），例如上面的第一个例句。我们再多加一个例句，帮助读者 "catch on！"
No one can catch on to Jon's British sense of humor.
没人了解小强的英式幽默感。
要注意的是，catch on 中的 on 作副词用，后面接受词时，须先加 to。
而在第二个例句中，catch on 就是 understand 的意思。
第三个例句及第四个例句则是指「（某事）大受欢迎或是十分流行。」这个片语用英文解释可以说 (something) becomes very popular。

catch red-handed当场逮到

The man was just stealing the money when the police saw him; he was caught red-handed.
这个男人在偷钱的时候被警察看到；他当场被逮到。
Kimmy caught her son red-handed trying to take the cookies.
晶蜜当场抓到她儿子偷吃饼干。

red-handed 引申为「满手是血」的意思，所以 catch red-handed 字面上是「（某人）作案后满手血迹，作了案还没来得及洗去手上的血（或毁尸灭迹），就被抓到了」。就是强调「现行犯被当场逮到」的意思。
要注意的是，使用这个片语的时候，catch 后面要加 (someone)，表示 「把（某人）逮个正着」的意思。
之外，这个片语也可以用被动式，英文也可以说 (someone) be caught red-handed。
下列是和 red-handed 意思相近的片语：
catch (someone) in the act
catch (someone) with (one's) pants down
所以，如果「茗蒂抓到她同事在工作的时候上网聊天」，英文就是 Mindy caught her coworker red-handed, chatting with her friends online at work。

catch sight of突然看到；注意到

Alexis smiled as soon as she caught sight of the birthday cake.
雅蕾丝一看到生日蛋糕就眉开眼笑了起来。
You will be overwhelmed when you catch sight of the mountains.
你一看到高山，就会大受感动。

sight 是「看见、瞥见」的意思，所以 catch sight of 字面上就是「捕捉到某个景象」的意思，英文的解释是 notice 或是 suddenly see。「我在人群中突然看到我的高中同学」。英文的表达方式是：I suddenly caught sight of my high school classmate in the crowd.
另外一个和 catch sight of 意思相似的片语是 catch a glimpse of。glimpse 是「须臾一瞥、瞥见」的意思。如果我们要说「老师用眼睛一瞟，就发现尚恩考试作弊。」英文的表达方式是 out of the corner of the her eye, the teacher caught a glimpse of Sean cheating on the test，而「我瞥见了布莱德比特」英文是：I caught a glimpse of Brad Pitt。
catch a glimpse of 还可以表示看到未来的走向，或是未来的发展。例如，when my boss was talking about the history of Eastbay Tech, I caught a glimpse of the company's future。（当我的老板谈到东湾科技的历史时，我瞥见了这家公司的未来。）而 astronomers caught a glimpse of the Sun's future 的意思是「天文学家瞥见了太阳的未来」

catch (some) sleep小睡片刻

With a test the next day, Ruth needed to catch some sleep.
如诗第二天有考试，所以她需要小睡一下。
Dennis only caught a few hours' sleep last night.
丹尼斯昨天晚上只睡了几小时。

catch some sleep 就是 get some sleep 的意思。
另外一个可爱的讲法是 catch some z's，在漫画里，表示睡觉的时候，不是都画 ZZZ... 来表示，catch some z's 就是这样来的。
catch 后面加别的字，也可以代表类似的意思喔！下面我们再多列几个和睡觉有关的片语和单字，大家睡不着的时候，就拿起来背一下吧！

catch up赶上；追上；了解近况

开快一点，想办法赶上公车。
Michael couldn't catch up with the other students.
麦克跟不上其他学生。
Drew needed to catch up on his homework.
得禄需要加把劲赶上功课进度。
Let's have lunch and catch up on what's been happening.

catch up 在上面的例句中，第一句和第二句就是指实际上「跟上或是赶上（某人、某物）」的意思。如果你要别人跟上来，可以说 catch up。
第三句和第四句的意思则是「赶上（应完成的工作）」。例如，我们要说「编辑总是有一堆工作要赶。」英文的表达方式是 editors always have to catch up on their work。
读者可能会疑惑，catch up 后面什么时候要用 with，什么时候又要用 up 呢？
使用 catch up with 的时候，意思是要赶上的人也同时在前进；但是如果用 catch up on 则表示目标已经设定好了，就等着你赶上。两者意思略有不同，读者要分清楚喔。
最后，be caught up in 是指「被卷入、被陷入（某种困境）」的意思。通常，当事人都是在身不由己的情况下被扯进去。
