*physician /____/  /____/ n. 医生；内科医生
physicist n. 物理学家  physics n. 物理学   physical adj. 身体的，物理的
*cure /____/ n.&v. 治疗，疗法，对策；治疗（疾病），消除。通常用于cure sb. of sth, 意为“治愈某人的某种疾病”。如：
1. The cats proved to be a good cure for our mouse problem.
最终证实猫是我们解决老鼠问题的好方法。
2. Aspirin is a wonderful cure for colds. 阿司匹林是治疗感冒的妙药。
3. I hope the doctor can cure the pain in my shoulder. 我希望医生能治好我肩上的疼痛。
4. Parents try to cure their children of bad habits. 父母试图改掉孩子的恶习。
5. The doctor cured her of cancer. 医生治好了她的癌症。
*distance /____/ n. 距离；间隔；远处；远方
1.What distance do you have to walk to school? 你到学校要走多远的距离？
2.In England distance is measured in miles, not in kilometers.
在英国测量距离用英里，不用公里。
3.What is the distance between / from Philadelphia and Chicago?
从费城到芝加哥有多远?
4.There has been (a) great distance between the two close friends since their quarrel. (喻)
"两个亲密的朋友自从争吵以后,就开始疏远了。"
5.I could see the bus coming in the distance. 我看见公共汽车从远处开来了。
习惯用语
at a distance 隔一段距离; 距离稍远一些     in the distance 在远处
keep at a distance! 别靠近!      out of distance (from) 离...太远, 达不到
keep one's distance 保持一定距离
*cheat /____/ vt. 欺骗, 诈取; 哄骗； (考试)作弊；消磨(时间)
cheat a person 骗人    cheat sb.(out) of money 骗某人的钱
cheat the customs 混过海关   cheat the journey 消磨旅途的寂寞
cheat the weary night 消磨长夜
1.He always cheats at cards; I never play with him.
他打牌老是作弊,我从来不和他一起打牌。
2.He didn't play the game fairly — he cheated.
他没有正当地玩游戏，他作弊了。
辨析：cheat, deceive, fool
1.cheat 指“在没被人查觉的情况下, 用不诚实的手段占便宜、骗钱财”, 如:
A man cheated me out of ＄100. 一个男人骗了我一百美元。
2. deceive 指“以制造假象, 使其上当”, 如:
The magician deceived us by making us think the box was empty.
魔术师让我们以为箱子是空的, 让我们上当。
3.fool 指“捉弄人取乐”, 如:
Don't fool me that way. 不要那样捉弄我。
*require /____/ vt.  
1. 需要[+v-ing][+that]
The roof requires repairing. 屋顶需要修理了。
This project will require less money. 这项工程所需的投资较少。
2. 【书】要求,命令[+that]
The director required that we should work all night. 主任要求我们通宵工作。
The emergency requires that it should be done. 情况紧急, 非这样做不可。
*imitate /____/  /____/ vt. 模仿，效法，模拟，假装，仿制。如：
1. The little boy imitated his father. 这个小男孩模仿他的父亲。
2. James can imitate his teacher’s speech perfectly.
3. Parrots imitate human speech. 鹦鹉学人语。
4. Wood is often painted to imitate stone. 木头常涂上油漆冒充石头。
*absurd /____/  /____/ adj. 荒谬的, 荒诞的, 荒唐可笑的
1.an absurd opinion 谬见
2.Don't be absurd! 不要胡闹!
3.Their request is absurd. 他们的要求是荒谬的。
辨析：absurd，foolish，silly，ridiculous均含“不合情理”、“荒唐”、“可笑”、“愚蠢的”意思。
1.absurd 强调“不符合人情或常识的”, 如:
It's clear to everybody that the creation of the world by God is absurd.
人人都清楚, 上帝创造世界的说法是荒谬的。
2.foolish 强调“缺乏智慧和判断力的”, 如:
What a foolish suggestion! 多么荒唐的建议!
3.silly 强调“单纯、糊涂、低能的”, 如:
I can't stand her giggling, she's so silly. 她吃吃地笑, 叫我真受不了, 那样子傻透了。
4. ridiculous 意为“荒谬的”、“令人发笑的”, 常会有“鄙视”之意, 如:
How ridiculous! 真滑稽! (含“岂有此理”意味)
