这儿有几张电影票,愿意和我们一同去观看吗? 2.he knows which side his bread is buttered on. ——他知道这本身的利害. know which side one's bread is buttered on 了解什么对自己有利,字面的意思 是“了解面包哪一面抹黄油” 又如: if you know which side your bread is buttered on,you will give up the idea of marrying a girl your father dosen't approve of. ——如果你知道这本身的利害,你就会放弃和你父亲不同意的女孩子结婚的念头。 3.i hope you don't have to eat your words. ——我希望你不会不得不收回前言。 eat one's words 收回前言,承认说错,收回以前说过的话 he said that i was afraid of him,did he?i'll make him eat his words. ——他说我害怕他,真的吗?我会让他收回他说过的话。 4.what are you up to?=what have you been doing? * to leave or stay,it's up to you.——去还是留,由你自己决定。 * tom will be up to his new position.——汤母会胜任他的新职位的。 * i'm not sure if i am up to it.——我不能确定我能否做得到。 5.he dosen't give much credit to me. give credit to =believe,trust i give credit to his report. 6.if you ask me how i enjoy coke,i'll say i can kill for it.(对什么着了迷) 7.as soon as you have made a decision,you must act.there will be no time for second thought.(重新考虑,另作决定) 8.if Stone's cold is still bad,tell him to try this new madichine,it's second to none.(最佳的,胜过其他一切的) 9.i think your response would be to jump right up. ——我想你一定会吓一大跳。 * his heart jumped for joy.——他高兴得心跳了起来。 * the price of gold jumped sharply last year.去年黄金价格猛升。 * he will jump at your offer.他会欣然接受你的提议。 * that gave him a jump.那给他一大跳。 10.* stop asking money,enough is enough!(够了!) * i've heard all the complaining from you that i can take.stop,enough is enough! 11.he gave me this terrible time. ——他给我添了许多麻烦。 12.i had enough of that nonsense. ——我已经厌烦了这种无聊的事。 13.she nearly fell over.她差点昏了过去。 fell over由于惊喜或害怕过度而昏倒。 14.Edward is always talking to himself recently,don't you think he is a little wrong in the head? ——爱得华最近总是自言自语,你不认为他脑子有点问题吗? 15.i racked my brains,but i still couldn't figure out who did that . 我绞尽脑汁,但还是想不出是谁干的这事。 16.can you believe it? he's asked me the question a thousand times. a thousand times形容次数很多,令人厌烦 17.*you're too ill to get out of bed,let alone go shopping. * the baby can't even walk,let alone run. let alone更别说 18.i'm in a bit of a spot, could you lend me some money till friday? in a spot 陷入困境,表示手头紧 19.i know where Karl stands on this,in that his aunt supports it and he always sides with her. in that=because 20.that was really something.那真的了不起。 something在口语中表示很需要的人物,举足轻重的事,了不起的事物 he thinks he is something.他自命不凡。 to make such a big progress in english ,you are really something.你真了不起。 |
