Hello there, it’s Feifei again, how have you all been? A very belated 迟到的 Happy Year of the rat! How was your Spring Festival holiday? A lot of you might have started school again, it is always really difficult going back to school after a long holiday, isn’t it? I just got back from Xi’an, my hometown, after two weeks’ holiday, it was fantastic although it was absolutely freezing 极冷的。 I heard about the weather chaos 由于恶劣天气引起的混乱现象 here in London before going back to China. The disastrous 灾难性的 weather has paralysed 瘫痪 the transportation 交通 as all of us were trying to get home for the most important holiday. On the way back, I was stuck 被困 on a plane in Shanghai Pudong International Airport for eight hours, but luckily I managed to get home for the New Year. China has had one of its worst winters in history. Fourteen provinces were hit by the severe weather and eighty million people’s day to day life was affected. That makes me and a lot of us wonder why so much snow? Some scientists say with climate change slowly gaining pace and the planet getting warmer each year, it is without any doubt the cause of this winter’s disaster; while some other scientists say there is no way to prove climate change is the one to blame although at the same time they find no other legitimate 合理的 explanations for such weather. Words like global warming 全球气温变暖, increased precipitation 更多降雨量, flooding 水灾, drought 干旱, tornado 龙卷风,hurricane 飓风 come into our life when we talk about climate change. Here is one programme we did to introduce the term Carbon Footprint 碳足迹. Have a listen. This winter’s severe weather is a reminder of what we have done to our living environment, there is no one to blame but ourselves. Do you have any pictures of this winter’s weather chaos or your Spring Festival holiday ones? Send us some of your pictures to [ft=,3, . We are looking forward to seeing them! If you have any questions on English learning, please leave a message. More soon, Best wishes, Feifei
