Hello everyone! How are you doing? I will be writing the blog this week from Xi'an. I never used to understand when people say 'home, sweet home' until after I left Xi'an in 2006. I was born here, grew up here, went to Xi'an International Studies University here, have so far spent most of my life here in this ancient yet modern city. I'd like to take you to some of the tourist attractions in Xi'an and show you some of my favourites of the city. I'm sure you have all heard of the Terra Cotta Worriers, haven't you? I don't think there's much to say about it, it's just amazingly impressive! Terra-cotta Worriers Here is a list of the well-known tourist attractions in Xi'an, let's have a look. Banpo Museum Bell Tower Big Wild Goose Pagoda City Wall Drum Tower Forest of Stone Steles Museum Huaqing Hot Springs Qin Mausoleum Shaanxi History Museum Small Wild Goose Pagoda Tang Paradise Do you know the Chinese of these sights? As you probably know from our history book that Xi'an was the capital for 13 dynasties in ancient China. I remember my middle school history teacher once said 'we are standing on a piece of land that has thousands of years of history' – Xi'an has more than 3,100 years of history. Whenever I tell people I’m from Xi'an, they all say 'ah, it's a very old city, full of old things, very poor, isn't it?' Well, it's only partly true. All the investment has helped Xi'an to develop during the last decade. I see changes of the city and of people's lives every time when I come back. One of my favourite parts of the city is the walls. The walls represent one of the oldest and best preserved 保存最完好的 Chinese city walls. Xi'an City Wall The construction of the first city wall of Chang'an – old name for Xi'an, began in 194 BCE and lasted for four years. The wall now stands 12 meters tall, 12 to 14 meters wide at the top and 15 to 18 meters thick at the bottom. It covers 13.7 kilometres in length with a deep moat surrounding it. You can rent a bicycle and cycle around the walls, great way of seeing the city in distance. I highly recommend it. There is a lot to see and plenty to do if you ever make your way to Xi'an, and I'm very happy to answer your questions about Xi'an, or even show you around if I'm around. Have a lovely start of the week! Best wishes, Feifei in Xi'an
