Hi everyone, I have an important guest to introduce to you this week- the BBC Prize Winner Sun Yi from China East Normal University.

At the 21st century English Speaking competition Sun Yi won the BBC best Impromptu speech and she is rewarded with a two week’s work experience at BBC Learning English in London.

Arriving on Saturday night she has already been to quite a few landmark places in London and she has a lot of reflects to share with you.

Now I am handing this page to Sun Yi and I hope you enjoy her stories.

'July 12th turns out to be a very good choice for me to come to London, for the weather is very, very nice these days.  The temperature at summer in Shanghai is about 38° C, very hot indeed, but the moment I got out of Heathrow Airport, I found it was so cool here, even a little bit chilly for summer, I thought. What a good place to avoid the summer heat for people from subtropical areas!

Though I still didn’t fully recover from jet lag, I woke up early the next day, excited, and tried to figure out where to go for the day. I asked the hotel staff members where the nearest bus station is and how far the River Thames is. They pointed out the exact site for me on the map and suggested me walking down to the river since it was a lovely day for walking. I took my handbag with me and started my exploration.

It was a Sunday, so the street was quiet and most shops didn’t open until noon. As the staff had told me, I went all the way down the Southampton Row to the end of the Kingsway, where I saw a great stone building which I thought was a famous church or something, but today I found out that the building is exactly the BBC Bush House! That’s what I think is the special thing about London. You never know what is going on inside a seemingly mysterious building.

It took me about half an hour to get down to the riverside. Because I was travelling alone, I asked passersby to take photos for me. I found the people here very nice, very warm-hearted. Strangers say hi to each other along the road. I have really enjoyed my first day here, visiting the Tower of London, the House of Parliament and Westminster Abbey, but pity I had no time to get onto the London Eye. I will go on exploring London. Wait and see!'

Well, Sun Yi will be back tomorrow with more of her stories in London. But if you have any questions to ask her, please feel free to do so.

Till tomorrow
All the best,

Yang Li
