Hi there everybody! I am very glad that so many of you have read my blog and been writing comments on it. Here comes my third blog on my exploration of London. The nightlife here is colourful, but unlike we Chinese people who usually go shopping for a night out, people in London often spend their night out at pubs, cinemas and theatres. Beers do not agree with me, though the other day I was being very adventurous in a pub to try a half pint of ale. So my evening out mainly consists of watching musicals and plays. This week I have already enjoyed one musical Les Misérables and one play The Mousetrap. I bet you have heard of them, since they are both the most long lasting shows in the world and they are gaining popularity in China, too. Les Misérables, colloquially known as Les Mis or Les Miz, is a musical composed in 1980 by the French composer Claude-Michel Sch**nberg with a libretto by Alain Boublil. The musical is based on the 1862 novel Les Misérables by Victor Hugo and it is now playing in the Queen’s Theatre. I bought a **36 discounted ticket at Leicester Square Box Office. It was a wonderful seat, in the stalls, the second row from the front. The show was absolutely fantastic and I think it attributed greatly to my good seat, because the front seats enabled me to see clearly the actors’ facial expressions and enjoy their beautiful voices. It was the first musical I had ever seen, and I have decided I like musicals. Compared to musicals, plays are a little bit boring for me. The Mousetrap is a play in the murder mystery genre by Agatha Christie. The play has the longest initial run of any play in the world, with over 23,000 performances since beginning its run in the West End of London in 1952. This time, I sat in the front row of the dress circle. I had been guessing the real murderer in the second half of the show. The motive of the murder is very twisting, I think. However, I am not going to tell you the ending, for at the end of the performance, we audience were asked not to reveal the real murderer, which I think is also what the play is known for. Next week I am going to try Mamma Mia and maybe watch a Ballet as well. Wait for my report about it. See you ~ Sun Yi
